Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee
▼Previous Meetings
The Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory
Committee (PBAC) met from 2007 to 2011 to
guide the development of improvements for
people who walk or ride bicycles in or
through the project area. The committee was
composed of community members and agency
representatives who developed
recommendations to enhance facilities and
connections for pedestrian and bicycle
circulation.
PBAC made recommendations to improve pedestrian and bicycle mobility and safety
PBAC explored other multi-use paths worldwide and made a recommendation that
the CRC project include a “world class” bicycle and pedestrian facility.
Elements of this recommendation are:
- A wide multi-use path with separation between recreational users and
high speed users
- Several access points to allow the river crossing path to connect more
directly with parks and recreational trails
- Viewpoints should be provided along the multi-use path and along the
bridge
In 2008, PBAC submitted a
recommendation supporting the Locally Preferred
Alternative. The committee recommended a replacement bridge because it provided
the most direct route for bicyclists and pedestrians and opportunities for safer
pathway connections.
In 2009, PBAC made a
recommendation on the bridge configuration. The
committee selected the two bridge option with a covered pathway under the
roadway deck with the caveat that CRC must make a commitment to a maintenance
and security program. PBAC went on to develop a recommendation for a
maintenance
and security program that the project has committed to develop as it moves
forward with project completion.
