Historic and Cultural Resources Open House

May 25, 2011

Historical movie footage of the I-5 bridge before the
second span was built in 1958.

The Columbia River Crossing (CRC) project held an open house about the historic and cultural resources within the CRC five-mile project area. CRC staff and partners presented the results of a study of the historic and cultural resources in the project area as well as proposed measures to offset identified impacts. CRC staff also were available to record personal stories and scan old photographs related to the CRC project area.

Couldn’t make the event, but still want to participate?

Tell us your story

Some stories and photos may be used on a new website and in educational materials highlighting this area’s history. If you would like to share your story or photographs and were unable to make the open house, please review the storytelling instructions here and submit them via email at feedback@columbiarivercrossing.org or send us your name and phone number and a staff member will contact you to schedule an individual meeting time.

To the right is a link to an audio recording taken at the Historic and Cultural Resources Open House on May 25, 2011. Marcella Fyffe was born a year before the 1917 bridge was built and has many stories about living underneath the bridge on a houseboat, watching sternwheelers, the day it rained frogs, riding the bridge lift and more! Marcella Fyffe was interviewed by Shelley Holly, AICP.
